It is expected by 2060, the older population will reach 98 million, which will be 24% of the total population and with the poorest oral health.  This is mostly due to lack of insurance or living in a situation that you do not have transportation to the dentist.

Oral health problems include untreated tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, oral cancer, and chronic disease.

Suggestions to maintain good oral health include brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice daily, flossing after every meal, visiting your dentist at least yearly, smoking cessation, limiting alcohol, maintaining a healthy lifestyle including a comfortable blood sugar level, drinking plenty of water or chewing sugarless gum.

Edgewood Convalescent Home is fortunate to have a dentist visit the residents frequently.  In the greater community, see you provider for referrals to a dentist or to see what resources are out there if insurance or transportation are a concern.

Thank you & stay healthy!
