Activity Department
Welcome Fall! It’s my favorite time of the year when the nights are cooler, and the days still stay a bit warm. We will be taking one last golf cart ride around town before the cold hits. Residents will be playing a new game this month called “name that pasta”. Did you know that there are many, many kinds of pasta in this world? Residents will be guessing the type of pasta and discussing the many different shapes and sizes.
Many of you may not know but each month I am challenged to come up with activities based around a specific topic. This month’s topic is pet appreciation. Each week I have planned a fun pet/animal activity. First, we have Stanley the Golden Retriever and Luna the Saint Bernard coming for an outdoor visit. The following week we will have a coffee chat discussing the Sleepy Sloth. Next, we will have a visit from a donkey named Jack. His handlers are going to be discussing the importance of brushing your teeth. Jack is a very busy donkey as he visits different towns and other care centers all around Iowa. Lastly, for this month’s challenge we are going to be playing everyone’s favorite game bingo, but with a twist. Instead of regular bingo cards there will be pictures of different dog breeds.
The residents will still be doing some of their usual activities as well. They will be attending church, playing games, working on word search and crossword puzzles, and continuing to stay active with our twice a week exercise program. Our creative activities include making a magazine jack-o-lantern collage and pumpkins from mason jar lids. We will also be decorating pumpkins to display around the building. To end the month, we are making treat bags for the trick-or-treaters during the Halloween Parade and having a Costume Halloween Party.
